Why the mp3 format sounds bad, and how to hear it ( ) Good examples of mp3 hiss/sizzle are here too To me OGG vorbis files sound warmer, more natural, and don't have that underlaying hiss and sizzle that you find so often in a lot of MP3 files on the net encoded either in a low bitrate or with an ancient encoder thats like ten years old and sounds worse. I'm just picky more often then not because I just re-did my entire music collection from CD's ive bought since the 80's and ripped directly to the OGG file format. But he did use the best mp3 encoder out there right now which is LAME v3.99 and he encoded it in a high enough bitrate that they still sound pretty good to me and I did add them to my music collection. If he would have been able to upload his original FLAC files then I would have downloaded those and encoded them myself to to the OGG Vorbis format. The originals were in FLAC, but I decided that the package was way too big and there isn't much quality difference between the MP3 and the FLAC to justify a FLAC download IMO. To put it another way that anyone could visualize try a JPG image file and save it ten to fiften times over and over and reload it each time you will see the image get full of blocks and distortions and artifacts. Converting MP3 to OGG is just making things worse considering that MP3 and OGG both take data away from the audio stream each time you encode (IE they are lossy audio formats when FLAC is loseless). Plenty of free software online.įrom a technical POV there's no point in doing that.
